Swim Meet 101

The Shongum Snappers compete in the North Jersey Regional Lake League (NJRLL), which consists of 10 area swim teams. For more information about the NJRLL, please visit www.njrll.org.

Invitational Meets

In addition to dual meets, the NJRLL hosts three different invitational meets that provide swimmers of all levels a chance to compete in a fun and supportive environment.

Ribbon Meet: The Ribbon Meet is for swimmers who are 12 & under who are new to competitive swimming and/or still developing their skills. Information about who is eligible for the Ribbon Meet will come out the week prior to the meet.

Silver Invitational Championship: Silvers is a single-day invitational meet geared towards swimmers who do not meet a specific time threshold. All NJRLL teams are invited to participate. The meet is divided into two sessions, one for older swimmers and another for younger swimmers. The coaches will email those who qualify in the weeks leading up to the event. All families who have swimmers in the meet are expected to volunteer for a portion of the meet.

NJRLL Championship Trails & Finals: This is a two-day championship meet that marks the end of the NJRLL season, and all NJRLL teams are invited to participate. All swimmers can compete in this event, and the coaches can give recommendations about which events are most appropriate for each swimmer. Trails is the first day of the meet, and consists of numerous heats for each event. The eight fastest swimmers at Trials in each event will qualify to compete at Finals. All families who have swimmers in the meet are expected to volunteer for a portion of the meet.
